Four Level Course

The Taiji School has introduced a four level training program with the aim of presenting an opportunity for interested students to build a solid foundation in the art of Taiji.

The program is designed to support the initiatives of the Taiji School in creating a educational base to spread and promote high quality Taiji.

It takes many years of hard practice and constant research to achieve Mastery in Taiji. Within these four levels we are not trying to become a Master, although we can expect to be well grounded and established in most aspects of the art.

The student can learn via classes, workshops, personal training or residentials. How its learned is not important, what is important is that the student can show all the requirements necessary before being allowed to progress into the next level.

Regular "gradings" will be run to allow students to try for the next level.

A student may complete the four levels within two years, another may take 10 years, its completely up to the individual.

At the end of the four levels the student should have a solid understanding of the Taiji principles, not only in theory but ingrained within the body. Physically they should be able to successfully demonstrate the Seven Relaxing Exercises, the 37 Posture Short Form, the 108 Posture Sword form and Master Huang's Refined Simplified form. In addition, they should have also learnt all the various elements of the Pushing Hands practice right from the fixed patterns to the free play.

To learn to teach is also a fundamental component of the course, students will be encouraged to assist and teach, eventually leading to the point where they can confidently conduct their own classes or seminars.

The Taiji School feels its essential the student continues to develop and grow after successful completion of the course. Support will be given regardless of which direction the student chooses to take. The School respects that we all have different reasons and goals for practising Taiji. As long as we are practising within the boundary of the principles then we can continue to refine ourselves and our art.

The idea of the "four level course" gives dedicated students motivation and direction.
